Troubleshooting Transfers
The PO-32 Didn’t Receive a Transfer
Section titled “The PO-32 Didn’t Receive a Transfer”- Check the PO-32 was in receive mode (acc + sound) before the transfer started.
- Stop any pattern playing in the Studio first. It keeps playing on other pages and mixes into the transfer.
- Turn the volume up until just before it distorts, and hold the speaker right next to the PO-32’s microphone.
- Switch off effects, EQ and audio “enhancements” on your computer or phone, including spatial audio.
- Keep the room quiet, and try again.
- If a long kit transfer fails near the end, check you’re on version 1.0.2 or later. Earlier versions let the end of a long transfer drop in level.
- As a fallback, select Export WAV and play the file into the PO-32 from another device.
A Backup Recording Came Back Wrong
Section titled “A Backup Recording Came Back Wrong”PO-PatchStudio tells you what went wrong under the recording:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| the capture clips | Lower the input level, or move the microphone further away. |
| very quiet capture | Raise the input level, or move the PO-32 closer. |
| damaged span(s) skipped | Part of the dump was lost. Record again somewhere quieter. |
| capture ended early | Keep recording for about two seconds after the tone ends. |
| Decode failed | Save the recording, adjust the level and try again. |
The level meter only moves while you’re recording, so make a short test recording to check your level.
If only part of a dump comes back, Load in Studio keeps your current values for the missing parts. Record again and load the second recording on top to fill the gaps.
Microphone Access
Section titled “Microphone Access”The first time you open Transfer & Import, your system asks to let PO-PatchStudio use the microphone. You only need it to record backups. Sending to the PO-32 works without it.
If you said no, or no inputs are listed:
- macOS: open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and switch on PO-PatchStudio.
If it isn’t listed, quit the app and run
tccutil reset Microphone studio.squarewave.po-patchstudioin Terminal, then open the app again to get the prompt back. - Windows: open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and turn on Microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone.
- iPhone and iPad: open Settings, find PO-PatchStudio and switch on Microphone.
- Android: open Settings > Apps > PO-PatchStudio > Permissions and set Microphone to Allow only while using the app. If you tapped Don’t allow twice, Android stops asking, so you have to change it there.
- Linux: check that your microphone shows up in your sound settings (PipeWire or PulseAudio), and that no other app is holding it.
The input list updates on its own when you plug in or unplug a device.
Still Stuck?
Section titled “Still Stuck?”Email me at support@squarewave.studio with your platform, what you were sending or recording and what the app said. If a backup recording won’t decode, attach the original recording (Save recording WAV, after a live recording). You can also ask in the SquareWave Studio Discord.
