How to Manage Your EP Sampler from an Android Phone

If you’d rather not be tied to a computer, EP-PatchStudio runs on Android. Plug your EP-40, EP-133 or EP-1320 into your phone and you’ve got most of the app in your hand: import and edit samples, build kits and multisamples for the EP-40, manage the device and back up.

The File Manager, sending to your EP, Backup & Restore and the Stem Splitter are part of Pro. The 14-day trial includes them.

Grab the APK from the download page and install it on your phone the usual way, or install EP-PatchStudio from Google Play. Google Play has version 1.5 for now, without the Stem Splitter and the other 1.6 features, so use the APK if you want the Stem Splitter. The app is free to download.

Connect the EP to your phone over USB. Most modern Android phones use USB-C, the same as the EP, so a USB-C to USB-C data cable is all you need. As on the desktop, a charge-only cable won’t carry data, so if the app doesn’t see your device, that’s the first thing to check.

Just about everything you’d do on a computer:

  • Manage samples with the File Manager: upload, download, delete and tidy slots.
  • Import audio and trim and edit it in the Sample Editor.
  • Build kits and multisamples for the EP-40 and send them to it over USB (sending is part of Pro).
  • Back up your projects so nothing’s at risk before a gig or a firmware update.

One tool stays on the desktop: the Auto-Sampler, which needs MIDI and audio routing that suits a computer. Stem Splitter (part of Pro) runs on the phone too, with the Fast splitter pack (see Stem Splitter for which phones). Everything else is there on the phone.

EP-PatchStudio is free to download on Android, iPhone, iPad and desktop, and the Sample Editor stays free. Managing the device, sending to it, backing up and the Stem Splitter are part of Pro, and the 14-day trial includes them.
