Install and First Launch

OP-PatchStudio will be a free download for macOS, Windows and Linux when the public beta opens. Sample and preset creation is always free, starting with the OP-XY. Pro adds the Tape Editor and Memos, and its 14-day trial starts when you first open the app, with no sign-up and no card.

OP-PatchStudio is coming with the public beta. When it’s out, the downloads will be on the OP-PatchStudio page: one universal build for macOS (Intel and Apple silicon), a 64-bit Windows installer and, for Linux, an AppImage and a Debian package (.deb). It’s desktop only for now.

Install

macOS

1. Open the downloaded .dmg file.
2. Drag OP-PatchStudio to your Applications folder.
3. Open it from Applications or Launchpad.

Windows

1. Run the downloaded installer and follow the steps.
2. Open OP-PatchStudio from the Start menu.

Linux

• AppImage: make it executable, then run it:

  chmod +x OP-PatchStudio-*.AppImage
  ./OP-PatchStudio-*.AppImage

• Debian or Ubuntu (.deb): double-click the file to install it with your software centre.

On Linux, connecting the OP-XY, OP-1 Field or TP-7 over USB is still being tested. Connecting Your Devices has the latest.

First Launch

1. The Welcome to OP-PatchStudio screen asks you to read the terms. Tick the box to agree to the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Licence Agreement.
2. Tick I understand this is unofficial software and I have backed up my device.
3. Under Anonymous Usage Analytics, tick Share anonymous usage analytics if you’re happy to share which features you use. It’s off unless you tick it, and you can change it later in Settings > Preferences > Privacy & Updates.
4. Select Continue. Your 14-day Pro trial starts and the app tells you the Pro tools are unlocked. Select Start Exploring.

Starting the trial needs an internet connection once. If you were offline, connect and open the app again. There’s no email or card to enter.

While the trial runs, the bar along the bottom of the window shows how many days are left, with Compare and Buy Pro · $39+ next to it. Licence and Pro explains what happens when the trial ends.

Good to know

• Quit Teenage Engineering’s own apps (such as Field Kit) before you connect a device. A device can only talk to one app at a time.
• There’s no fixed export folder. Every time you save a preset, tape or transcript, OP-PatchStudio asks where to put it.
• The ? button in the top right opens a guide panel for whichever tool you’re using.

Updates

OP-PatchStudio checks for a new version each time it starts. You can turn that off, or check by hand, in Settings > Preferences > Privacy & Updates (Check for Updates on Startup and Check Now). Settings > About shows the version you have.
