Connecting Your Devices
Device Info shows which OP device is connected, its firmware, serial number and storage. Connecting is optional: every tool works with files, so you can always export and copy the result to your device the usual way. Copying to Your Device covers that.

The OP-XY, OP-1 Field and TP-7 connect over USB in their file (MTP) mode on macOS. Linux connection is being tested on hardware, and I’ll update this page when it’s confirmed. On Windows the system’s own driver claims them, so OP-PatchStudio can’t see them yet. Windows support for these three is planned. The OP-Z and original OP-1 show up as a USB drive on every platform.
Connect a Device
Section titled “Connect a Device”- Quit any other app that might be using the device, such as Teenage Engineering’s Field Kit.
- Connect the device with a USB cable that carries data (some charging cables don’t).
- Put the device in its file mode:

- Open Device Info. The device appears on its own, and the device button in the top right of the window shows its name.
OP-PatchStudio opens one device at a time. If two are connected, unplug the one you’re not using.
What Device Info Shows
Section titled “What Device Info Shows”-
Model and Connection (MTP, or Mass Storage for the OP-Z and OP-1). For a drive, it also shows the Volume it’s mounted as.

Firmware, Serial Number and Storage (used, capacity and free space).

Firmware help, which differs by device:
- OP-XY and OP-1 Field: whether a newer firmware is available, and Open Update Tool for Teenage Engineering’s own updater.
- OP-Z: whether a newer firmware is available, and Open Firmware Downloads.
- TP-7: Open Update Tool, without a version check.
- Original OP-1: no firmware help.
OP-PatchStudio doesn’t update firmware itself.
If the device is in its audio and MIDI mode, Device Info says it’s Connected over MIDI and asks you to switch to file mode, because it can’t read storage over MIDI.
Disconnecting
Section titled “Disconnecting”For the OP-Z and original OP-1, eject the drive the usual way for your computer before you unplug it. On Windows, use Safely Remove Hardware.
OP-PatchStudio doesn’t have an eject or disconnect button in this release, so disconnect from your computer or the device itself. For the OP-XY, OP-1 Field and TP-7, let any copying finish before you unplug.
Linux USB Permissions
Section titled “Linux USB Permissions”On Linux, opening the OP-XY, OP-1 Field or TP-7 over USB needs a permissions rule for your user. I’m checking the rule on each device now, and I’ll add the setup steps here once it’s confirmed. Until then, work with files: export from the app and copy them across with your file manager.
If Your Device Doesn’t Show Up
Section titled “If Your Device Doesn’t Show Up”- Check the table above: on Windows, the OP-XY, OP-1 Field and TP-7 don’t connect yet.
- Quit Field Kit and any other app that might hold the device. If you see Could not open the device, another app is probably using it.
- Try another cable or port, and make sure the device is in its file mode, not MIDI mode.
- On Linux, check the USB permissions step.
