Chop Sample shows the slices before it cuts and Fit More gets more sounds onto a K.O. II. The app also keeps a copy before anything on your EP is deleted or replaced.
New
Chop Sample shows you the slices before it cuts, from any mode. Move, add or delete markers, play any slice, then put them on a Drum Kit, one per pad, or make a multisample. Each hit gets a name, such as Kick or Snare. Export Files, which is free, saves the slices as WAV files
Fit More gets more sounds onto a K.O. II. One tap on a One Shot or Key sample switches on mono, a lower sample rate and, where the pitch allows, Double Speed, then shows how much smaller it is. Undo puts it all back. Fit More is free, and 2x Speed is now called Double Speed
Phones and tablets get a new layout: screens use the full width, dialogues open as sheets and controls are easier to tap, even with larger text
With more than one EP plugged in, pick which one to use from the connection status in the header
A new install opens the Pro trial with a short tour, and anything that's part of Pro carries a Pro tag so you can see what stays free. Settings > Licence lists the devices using your licence and lets you free one up
Improved
Before you clear samples or projects or run a Factory Reset, the app offers to back up your EP first. If that backup fails or you cancel it, nothing is deleted
Deleting, moving or replacing a sample on your EP keeps a copy in the File Manager's Recycle Bin first, and a deleted project goes to a Recycle Bin you can undo from
Restoring a backup brings samples back the way they were, with their play mode, settings and multisample zones. Pushing a project or loading a Project Set shows which slots it will replace before you start
The Sample Editor saves your edits as you go, so you can get them back after a crash
The Stem Splitter keeps your recent splits for 7 days, and the fast splitter pack uses less memory
Beta Tester Mode asks before it turns on, and it's off after this update until you say yes. With usage data off, the app doesn't contact the analytics service at all
Fixed
Restores no longer fail halfway or bring samples back at the wrong pitch
The Stem Splitter's storage clean-up no longer deletes good splits when a file or setting can't be read
A multisample in a sample pack reaches your EP with its zones, and AIFF instruments keep every sample
On iPhone and iPad, sound comes back after a call
Plus smaller fixes and polish
Removed
Sending a multisample or drum kit to an EP-1320 is off until I've tested it on a real one
The Stem Splitter comes to phones and tablets, and usage data now stays off until you choose to share it.
New
Stem Splitter (Pro) on phones and tablets. iPhone, iPad and 64-bit Android devices with about 6 GB of memory or more can split a song into drums, bass, vocals and the rest, privately on the device. Keep the app open while it works; if a split gets cut off, it tells you next time you open it
When your Pro trial ends, the app offers once to email you a code for more time
Improved
Usage analytics and crash reports stay off until you choose to share them on the first-launch screen. You can change this any time in Settings
The Stem Splitter calls its downloads splitter packs, and the first download asks before it uses mobile data
iPhone and iPad now need iOS 15.1 or later
Fixed
A Pro licence key bought for another SquareWave app no longer unlocks EP-PatchStudio. Your EP key keeps working as before
On iPhone and iPad, sending files to and from your EP no longer breaks while it sends MIDI clock
The Stem Splitter loads M4A and FLAC files on Android, and a large file you drop in can no longer replace one you picked after it
Clearer wording in a few places: trial code messages, the Multisample Editor's zone limit (8 on the EP-40), the Ableton export (Live 12) and the storage estimate
Known Issues
On iPhone and iPad, use the file picker to choose a sample for the Stem Splitter for now. Picking from the Library or the Sample Editor is fixed in the next update
Safer backup restores, and the macOS download is signed and notarised again.
New
Settings > About now thanks the Superfans, contributors and beta testers who helped make EP-PatchStudio
Fixed
macOS: the download is properly signed and notarised again. Since 1.4.3, macOS could warn that it "could not verify EP-PatchStudio is free of malware" and refuse to open it
Batch Processor: writing a processed sample back over its original slot now keeps the play mode, root note and envelope you set on the device, plus the BPM on the EP-40. Before, they went back to the defaults. If you change any of them on that sample in the Batch Processor, the device gets your new values instead. Writing to a new free slot uses the Sound Parameters, the same as Upload to Device
Restore no longer replaces sounds already on your device. If a backup sample's old slot now holds a different sound, the sample goes into a free slot and the restored project's pads follow it. Pads also follow samples the device already has in another slot. Before, those pads could play the wrong sound or nothing at all. You can still let the backup take its slots back, after seeing which slots and projects that affects
Faster start-up with a big library: the app no longer loads whole audio files just to tidy up its storage when it opens
Waveforms: double-tapping to zoom no longer nudges your sample markers
Project Viewer: group previews now play time-stretched pads at their stretched length
Phones: the All Tools menu opens from the bottom of the screen again. On some phones it opened at the top, tucked under the status bar
Phones: the tool you are on stands out clearly in the All Tools menu in dark mode
Dark mode now reaches the Project Viewer timeline, sample waveforms and editor windows when the app follows your phone or computer's light and dark setting. Before, they stayed light
Stem Splitter: split a song into drums, bass, vocals and the rest, offline on your machine.
New
Stem Splitter. Split a full song into drums, bass, vocals and everything else, privately and offline on your machine. Pick just the section you want, listen to each stem on its own, then save the stems to your library, send them to the Batch Processor or export a version with the vocals taken out. A full song usually takes one to a few minutes, depending on your computer, and a six-stem model adds guitar and piano. The models download from their original source after you have read their terms, or you can import a model file you already have. Desktop only and part of Pro
A new app icon
Phones: pick the four tools you want in the bottom bar and reach everything else from All Tools
Phones: select several files at once in File Manager, and your selection survives a trip to the editor and back
Phones: the Sample Editor folds its actions into a menu, the mode picker splits into two rows and short landscape screens keep the controls in reach
Improved
The product page, docs and changelog links now go to the EP-PatchStudio pages on squarewave.studio
Reading your library back from disk works again: backups, projects and sample packs.
Fixed
On 1.4.3 the app could not read its own library back from disk: backups would not restore or export, stored projects would not open and sample pack audio would not play or upload. Saving still worked, so nothing was lost. The 1.4.3 change for large backups read files in a way the app was not permitted to use. Everything you saved on 1.4.3 reads back fine now, nothing needs redoing
If the app is ever refused that kind of file access again, it falls back to the old way of reading and notes it in the support log instead of failing
Fixes the macOS launch loop and makes startup lighter on big libraries.
Fixed
macOS: if the app gets stuck flashing black and white at launch, it now recovers on its own. The first failure reloads quietly. If that does not take, it asks before setting the broken browser data aside and restarting. Reinstalling never cured this because the bad data lived outside the app
Startup no longer loads every stored project, sample pack and cached sample into memory at once. Big libraries open faster, and the launch crash some of you saw after a device factory reset should be gone
Android: backing up a full device no longer crashes at the final step when the archive is large
Triggering the same note twice in quick succession no longer leaves a looping voice playing in the background
Device Info refreshes its storage and sample counts each time you open it, so the figures settle after a format. The device reclaims space slowly, so give it a moment
New
Settings > Storage has a Rescan Library Storage action. If the app's database is ever lost, it rebuilds your projects, sample packs and backups from the audio files still on disk
Time-stretch now carries through to playback and stem export, plus a batch of loop playback fixes.
Fixed
Time-stretch now works in playback and stem export. A pad stretched to the project tempo, in BPM or BAR mode, plays and exports at that speed with its pitch unchanged. Before, you got the sample at its original speed
Loops play continuously across bars and scene changes instead of restarting at every bar
Loops-only factory projects now show up and play in the Project Viewer
Loop waveforms in the timeline now line up with what you hear
Exporting the full mix no longer clips when several groups peak at once
Ableton export now includes loops that were latched in live mode
Samples trimmed from the front no longer play past their trim end when triggered from a pattern
If the app's backend crashes, the next launch now reports it, so rare crashes get seen and fixed instead of vanishing
Improved
The conversion dialog puts its actions above the warnings, so you can reach them without scrolling
Fixes a crash on launch that hit some macOS systems.
Fixed
macOS: the app could crash the moment it opened if other software on the system interfered with WebKit, the component that renders the interface. It now rides that out instead of crashing
Crashes in the app's backend are now recorded in the session log, so support reports are easier to diagnose
Chop samples into equal slices, convert projects between devices and batch process straight from the device.
New
Chop a sample into equal slices. Cut it into 4, 8, 16 or any number of even slices in the Sample Editor, snapped to zero crossings. Made for breaks and loops
Convert projects between devices. Move a project between EP-133, EP-40 and EP-1320 and the app remaps it for the target device
Batch process samples straight from your device. Multi-select in File Manager, send to the Batch Processor and write the results back to the device
3-band EQ in the Sample Editor processing toolbar
Guided tours. Every tool now has a short walkthrough you can take or skip, plus a getting-started checklist so new users know where to begin
Select mode. Tap Select in list views to pick several items at once for tagging, exporting or deleting
Double-tap the waveform to zoom in on a section (double-click on desktop)
Sample settings now use hardware-style knobs and faders
Reorder samples by dragging rows in the Sample Editor list, or drop a row on a pad to assign it
Improved
The Pro trial now shows how many days are left in the header and warns you before it ends
Full-screen splash on phones and tablets, with the device artwork front and centre
Fixed
Some sample names made device uploads fail with an invalid length error. Names are now kept within what the device accepts, and you can rename samples directly in the Batch Processor table
Batch Processor sessions restore properly after a restart
Writing a processed sample back to the device no longer overwrites looped or multisample sounds, which the device cannot rebuild from a plain sample
Fixed a licensing issue that could affect the Pro trial
The phone header no longer wraps. The trial pill stays beside the wordmark and the connection state is a compact icon
iOS: the launch screen icon showed white corners in dark mode. It no longer does
Android gets in-app update checks, plus iOS layout fixes.
New
Android: EP-PatchStudio now checks for updates from inside the app. You get a notification when a new version is ready, and you can turn automatic checks on or off, or check manually, from Preferences
Fixed
iOS: the header could sit under the status bar for a moment when the app first opened. It now stays clear of it from the start
iOS: the upgrade nudges could hide behind the bottom tab bar. They now sit above it
Device Info becomes a dashboard, plus new Project Sets and Sample Packs tools.
New
Device Info is now a full dashboard. See your connected device with its own artwork, check storage at a glance and manage everything from one screen
In-app backups. Back up your device without leaving the app. Backups save automatically, you can tag and pin the ones worth keeping and import projects straight from a backup into your Project Library
Project Sets. Save all nine of your device's project slots together as a named set, then load the whole set back in one go. Before it overwrites anything the app snapshots what is on your device first, so nothing is lost
Sample Packs is now its own tool. Export a pack as a zip to share, import a pack from a zip and tag your packs. Imports now accept AIFF and MP3 as well
Improved
Project Sets and Sample Packs are now top-level tools, with the navigation grouped so related tools sit together
Fixed
Key detection always reported C no matter the sample. It now detects the actual key
Optimise loop points did nothing on some samples. It now works as intended
Removed FLAC from the audio file pickers. EP devices cannot play FLAC, so offering it only led to failed imports
Tidied the British spelling of Licence in the interface
iOS: fixed a crash when opening file pickers, plus several layout fixes for phone and tablet
EP-PatchStudio is now on Android. Import audio, edit and trim samples, build kits and multisamples and send them straight to your EP over USB. Download the APK from the website
Fixes importing backups on iOS, and tidies the Project Viewer timeline order.
Fixed
iOS: you can now pick .pak and .ppak files when importing to the Project Library. The file picker was greying them out, so there was no way to select your backup
Improved
Project Viewer: the timeline lists pad lanes in the same order as the pads on your device, so the labels read in sequence instead of jumping around
EP-PatchStudio is out of beta, with fixes for the Linux desktop build.
Fixed
Linux: the app now finds your connected EP device again. It was mistaking the desktop window for Android and choosing the wrong MIDI connection, so no device showed up
Linux: fixed a blank window on newer systems such as Bazzite and SteamOS, caused by bundled Wayland libraries clashing with the ones already on your machine
Linux: the AppImage build now plays audio
Restored the device-backup confirmation on the first-run welcome screen, so you are reminded to back up with the official EP Sample Tool before you start
More mobile polish for the iOS app, currently in TestFlight beta.
Improved
The file manager, sample editor and batch processor tables now adapt to phone and tablet screens, hiding less-important columns and moving row actions into a menu so nothing runs off the edge
The file manager toolbar is tidier on phone, with secondary actions grouped into Options and Actions menus instead of stacking up
Buttons and tap targets now meet the minimum comfortable size on phones and tablets
Fixed
App content no longer sits under the status bar, notch or home indicator on iPad
Fixed a double scrollbar on iPhone that made a page need a second swipe to scroll to the end
Button labels and type badges no longer get cut off on narrow screens
The iPhone app now stays in portrait, so the layout no longer breaks in landscape
Auto-Sampler note range now matches the rest of the app, plus a C3/C4 note naming setting.
New
You can now choose C3 or C4 note naming in Settings under Preferences > Appearance. C3 names middle C (MIDI 60) the way Ableton Live and FL Studio do, C4 is scientific pitch. The choice applies everywhere note names appear, and was previously only reachable from the multisample keyboard
Fixed
The Auto-Sampler note range now uses the same note naming as the rest of the app. With the default C4 naming the range and the resulting root notes read an octave higher than the range you picked, so choosing D#2 to D#3 showed root notes of D#3 to D#4. The samples were always recorded and mapped to the right notes, only the labels were off
Per-pad and per-scene stem export, looping pads in the Timeline and a clutch of EP-40 project-loading fixes.
New
Stem export can now render each pad to its own track and split the export by scene, so you can drop individual hits or whole sections straight into a DAW. A new Source sample-rate option keeps each sample at its own rate instead of upsampling the low-rate EP samples
Pads set to loop on the EP-40 now show and play as continuous loop regions in the Timeline, instead of showing nothing useful
The Auto-Sampler Setup Guide now opens with a signal-routing diagram that shows how MIDI and audio flow through your setup, so the loopback step is easier to get right
Improved
Views fade in gently as you move between them. The animation respects your system reduced-motion setting
Fixed
EP-40 projects from the current firmware (1.0.5) now load correctly in Timeline view and stem export. Their pattern data was being misread, which left the timeline empty or stretched the samples into a low-pitched rumble with wildly wrong bar counts. Pad View was never affected
Projects that are just loose pattern variants, jammed without building a song, now show up in the Timeline, stem export and DAW exports instead of appearing empty
Notes played below their root pitch (or with Time set below its centre) no longer cut off early during timeline playback and stem export
Restores the desktop MIDI connection for EP devices, plus VoiceMeeter capture and file-manager fixes.
Fixed
EP devices connect again on desktop. A change from the mobile work had routed the desktop app onto the wrong MIDI backend, so your EP-133, EP-40 or EP-1320 could show as disconnected even while other apps still saw it. Desktop is back on its own MIDI connection
Windows drivers that expose a device as separate "MIDI IN" and "MIDI OUT" ports now pair correctly, so the device connects instead of being dropped
The header no longer reads "Disconnected" for a MIDI device that is actually connected, and the connected-device count is now accurate
EP-133 is recognised even when its driver reports it only as "K.O. II", and EP-1320 when reported only as "Medieval"
Auto-Sampler now records audio from VoiceMeeter virtual outputs on Windows. They previously opened without error but captured only silence
Shift-click and Ctrl/Cmd-click multi-select works again in the file manager
The sample rate shown right after a batch upload is now correct, instead of briefly showing the previous sample's value
Improved
Project libraries and sample packs now keep their audio on disk rather than inside the app database, so large collections stay responsive. Existing data moves across automatically the first time you open this version
The macOS app no longer crashes on launch. A MIDI setup conflict introduced in 0.35.0 aborted the app on startup on macOS only. Windows and Linux were not affected
Multisample note zones with automatic splits and per-sample range overrides, plus the EP-40 click-free playback fix.
New
Multisample note zones — a zone lane in the multisample editor shows the note range each sample covers. Ranges split automatically across your samples and you can drag the boundaries or set per-sample high and low limits by hand. Two samples sharing a root note raise a warning, and one click reverts to automatic splits
Improved
The sample table's "Note" column is now labelled "Root Note", so it's clear it sets each sample's root rather than a fixed pitch
The keyboard no longer scrolls itself when you hover a sample row, so it stays put while you work in the zone lane
Fixed
EP-40 multisamples now play click-free. This fixes the region-boundary clicks and the noise-gate tail crackle when pads release
Auto-Sampler can now reach the microphone on Windows. A stored WebView2 permission block was rejecting recording even after a reinstall
Importing a multisample from a device slot no longer reads past the region boundary
Looped samples trimmed at the start now export their loop points in the right place, instead of shifted later by the trim length
Library Insights with an annual Wrapped recap, Ableton Live 12 export, Sample Packs and sample optimisation in the File Manager.
New
Library Insights — new Insights tab with stats from your whole project library: activity heatmap, tempo histogram, sound usage, project structure and a producer personality card. Includes an annual Wrapped recap with shareable PNG cards. All data stays on your device. Pro feature
Ableton Live export — export any project as a Live 12 set (.als). Tracks come across with names, colours, MIDI clips, samples, trim points and group mixer levels and pan. Live 12 only
Sample Packs tab in the File Manager — bundle samples into named packs, import whole folders (handles 8/24/32-bit, float and surround WAVs) and save selected slots or a project's sounds as a new pack
Optimise samples in the File Manager — convert stereo samples to mono and downsample to a target sample rate to free up device storage
Improved
Stem export fidelity — correct loudness, release tails at scene boundaries and reduced aliasing. Renders at 88.2 kHz only when a project pitches samples up, so most exports are faster
Auto-Sampler microphone permission errors now explain how to fix them on your platform, and the setup guide notes the macOS 2-channel limit for multi-input interfaces
MIDI device detection — devices plugged in after the app starts are now picked up, and devices with mismatched input/output manufacturer fields connect reliably
Fixed
Auto-Sampler no longer records silent samples on macOS and the device dropdown no longer collapses to one entry
Scene audio is scheduled immediately during timeline playback so scene changes no longer jitter
Batch Processor TNGE export now applies the 2x speed setting
Stem export now applies the sample's stored volume
Editor defaults no longer override the play mode of every pad in a multisample
Timeline preview applies the device's default delay effect when a project has no effect settings
Project backups round-trip byte-faithfully through the editor so unmodelled data survives a save
Enter License Key button now lands on the licence page with the entry form open
Batch Processor goes GA with a combined Sample Editor, plus a new Trim to Markers button and a stack of kit and timeline fixes.
New
Batch Processor is now available to everyone. The Beta badge stays for one more release as a soft launch signal
Combined Sample Editor in the Batch Processor with full waveform editing, markers, zoom, loop region and per-file settings overrides in a single tabbed modal
Trim to Sample Start/End Markers — new Crop button in the Sample Editor toolbar that destructively trims audio outside the in/out markers. Helpful for fitting longer material under the 20-second TNGE limit and for cleaning up samples before normalise, fade or auto-chop
The Batch Processor is the headline change in this release. If you use it please share feedback through GitHub issues or the support email so I can polish it before dropping the Beta badge next release
Improved
Auto-chop now works in Drum Kit mode. Slices land on the active scale's kit pad notes instead of a chromatic sequence
Move and swap modal copy now reads "affected projects will play the moved/swapped samples" instead of the misleading "project references will be updated automatically"
Batch move modal now shows the project warning that was previously missing
Alert titles in move and swap modals use Title Case
Fixed
Drum kit TNGE files reopen in the Drum Kit layout instead of the melodic keyboard
Drum kit pads no longer silent when loaded files lack a MIDI note in the filename
Multisample export no longer produces wrong zones when switching from Drum Kit to Melodic mode
Windows microphone permission error in the Auto-Sampler now shows clear guidance instead of a generic audio input error
Stem export pitch modulation now matches device playback when automation starts mid-pattern
Timeline and sample blocks no longer render at the wrong width on projects with mixed event types
File Manager swap now plays the correct content after swapping (was playing unrelated samples)
Fixed a bug where the app window could become permanently invisible on macOS. If the app was quit while hidden (Cmd+H then Cmd+Q, or before the window was shown on first launch), it would never appear again on subsequent launches.
Project Viewer is now available to all users with play mode support and accurate sample trim playback.
New
Project Viewer is now available to all users (no longer beta-only)
Play mode support in timeline playback (oneshot, key and legato modes match device behaviour)
Play mode selector in the Sample Editor
Sound Inspector shows waveform with trim markers and plays the trimmed region
Support for importing backups from older EP-133 firmware versions
Batch Processor tab visible in navigation (coming soon)
Fixed
Trimmed samples now play correctly in the timeline (native sample rate scaling fix)
Trimmed waveforms render at full resolution instead of blurry CSS-scaled crops
Mute group displays as Yes/No instead of incorrect numbered groups
Pad byte field ordering corrected (choke group and play mode were swapped)
Project Library "Push to Device" now uploads samples along with the project (previously only the project tar was sent, leaving sounds missing on the device)
What's New modal now appears 6 seconds after launch instead of 60
First public release! Stability improvements and reduced device bus traffic after File Manager operations.
New
First public release of EP-PatchStudio (beta). Thank you for trying it out! Please report any issues via Settings > Support.
Improved
File Manager move, swap and duplicate operations are now faster and more reliable (removed unnecessary device writes that could cause ERR 82 errors on some devices)
Backup restore is more reliable (project archives upload directly without intermediate processing)
Project cache no longer syncs automatically after every operation, reducing device bus traffic. Use the Refresh button or Settings "Sync Now" when you need fresh project data.
Removed
"Move to Slot" dialog temporarily removed while I work on making it more stable. It will return in a future update.
