Signed builds

The macOS build is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised, and the Windows installer is signed by SquareWave Studio. They install like any other app. iOS is on the App Store, signed under my Apple Developer ID like macOS. Linux AppImages aren’t code-signed (that’s normal for Linux). The Android build is an APK from the website rather than the Play Store, so your phone may ask you to allow an install from an unknown source. See the platform-specific steps below.

Download

Download the latest version for your platform:

• macOS: EP-PatchStudio_macOS_universal.dmg (Intel and Apple Silicon)
• Windows: EP-PatchStudio_Windows_x64.msi
• Linux: .AppImage (runs on any distro)
• Android: .apk (installed from the website, not the Play Store)
• iOS: on the App Store (iPhone and iPad, iOS 15 or later)

Only download from official sources: the download page on this website.

macOS installation

The macOS build is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple, so it opens like any other app. No right-click or Gatekeeper workaround is needed.

Installation steps

1. Double-click the DMG to mount it
2. Drag EP-PatchStudio.app to your Applications folder
3. Open it from Applications or Launchpad

Troubleshooting macOS

• “The application is damaged”: Usually a corrupted download. Re-download the DMG. If it persists, remove the quarantine attribute with xattr -cr /Applications/EP-PatchStudio.app
• “Application already open”: Quit completely (Cmd+Q) and try again

Windows installation

The Windows installer is digitally signed by SquareWave Studio, so it installs normally.

Installation steps

1. Double-click the .msi installer
2. Follow the installation wizard
3. If UAC appears, click “Yes”

The signing certificate is still building reputation with Microsoft SmartScreen, so you may occasionally see a “Windows protected your PC” prompt. If you do, click “More info” then “Run anyway”. This goes away as the certificate earns reputation.

Troubleshooting Windows

• “This app can’t run on your PC”: You may have downloaded the wrong architecture. EP-PatchStudio requires Windows 10 x64 or later.
• “Access denied” during install: Right-click the installer → “Run as administrator”
• “Windows Defender blocked this app”: Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history → Find EP-PatchStudio → Actions → “Allow on device”

Linux installation

Linux desktop apps aren’t code-signed, which is normal. The AppImage runs on any distribution and is the recommended download.

AppImage (any distro)

Make it executable, then run it:

chmod +x EP-PatchStudio-*.AppImage``./EP-PatchStudio-*.AppImage

Android installation

The Android build is an APK you download from the website, rather than from the Play Store. It’s the same app as the desktop version, bar the Auto-Sampler, which stays on the desktop.

Installation steps

1. Download the .apk from the download page on your phone
2. Open it. If Android warns about installing from an unknown source, allow it for your browser and carry on
3. Connect your EP over USB and you’re away

A note on code signing

Code signing verifies the publisher’s identity and confirms the software hasn’t been tampered with. The macOS build is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple, and the Windows installer is signed by SquareWave Studio.

Linux desktop apps aren’t code-signed, which is standard practice on Linux.

Is this safe?

Yes, if you downloaded from an official source.

The macOS and Windows builds are code-signed, so your operating system can verify they come from me and haven’t been altered. You can also verify any download by:

• Checking the SHA-256 file hash (provided with downloads)
• Scanning with antivirus if you’re concerned

Never download from third-party sites

Only download EP-PatchStudio from ep-patch.studio or squarewave.studio.
